Mihanovic finds his motifs by wandering among the islands of the Croatian coast on his boat that serves as a mobile atelier.

It is primarily thanks to the boat that he can access the places that inspire and provide him with the themes of his paintings. This live encounter with his motifs is the most important moment in the process of creating a painting. In order to assist his memory, Mihanovic, like all artists throughout history, makes sketches and watercolors of the images he wishes to capture.

Upon returning to his studio, he begins transfering the sketches and watercolors to the large canvas. After the intital large brush strokes are set, Mihanovic starts working on the details, a lengthy and laborious process. One painting usually requires 8-10 hours of work a day and several months to finish. Depending on their dimensions, Mihanovic produces 4-5 paintings a year.

This style of painting known today as Hyper-realism, requires great knowledge and superb technical skill, very much like that of the great masters of the past.

Mihanovic has dedicated his entire life to mastering this craft.
