As mentioned above, Mihanovic captures the first impression of his motifs on sketches and watercolors.
A watercolor is, in essence, the compositional foundation of a future painting. Its technique – the translucent blending of colors that produce a warm impression of what he felt and saw while gazing upon natural and mad-made wonders – allows him to quickly put his initial ideas on paper.
Producing a watercolor may take several days, so Mihanovic will simply drop anchor and paint until the image is complete.
Days spent in such a fashion allow him to fully absorb the motif, the environemnt, the sunlight and the winds, so that upon returning to his studio fully inspired, he can tranfer the complete experience onto his canvas.
