After the saturation of nonfigurative modern painting, the return to realism and figurative representation was logical and necessary. It also represents the return to humanism - present in the entire European art tradition from Antiquity through this century. Mihanović is among those modern painters who want to reconstruct this noble tradition of the Fine Arts. Looking at his sea scenes, it is inevitable to compare them to Vermeer’s unique views. Tradition and mastery of the painter’s craft are not only a modern trend but also the logical reaction to all the minimalist art, op-art, pop-art, and art-brut.
